Fano Adriano

Fano Adriano is a municipality with 330 inhabitants and is located near Pietracamela and Montorio al Vomano in the Italian province of Teramo. The territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. The town is a member of the Comunità Montana Gran Sasso.

Borders the following municipalities: Crognaleto, Isola del Gran Sasso d' Italia, L'Aquila, Montorio al Vomano, Pietracamela and Tossicia.

The municipality is situated approximately 28 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo away.

History

The name of the village comes from the Latin Fanum Adriani, whose name comes from the Roman period. Presumably, the area was populated at that time by different peoples. In the 15th century the village was first mentioned in several documents. The municipality is located in the valley of the Vomano, a river in the Abruzzo region. The village has a medieval style buildings and has several churches of this period in the region. In the oldest part of the village is the parish church of the sixteenth century. In the district Cerqueto stands the old church of Sant'Egidio. It was restored several times.
