History

The airfield was opened on 20 July 1930 as a military airfield. After further development work here a military flight school was established. During World War II caused the battles for the Gothic Line severe damage. The retreating units of the German Wehrmacht made the airfield completely useless, so he had to be built by the Allies provisionally moving up again.

The airfield was abandoned until 1952, then the local Aero Club received a permit for the reconstruction and operation. Soon we planned a commercial use, but the proximity of the airports of Rimini and Ancona as well as the limited possibilities for an extension of the runway meant that you 're supposed distance from these projects. In the 1990s, the existing facilities were modernized.

In recent years there has been a hand proposals to downgrade the airfield for cost reasons a simple airfield ( Aviosuperficie ) and convert large parts of the site into a city park, on the other hand you also tried laying asphalt on the existing runway.

The airport is named after a native of Fano military pilots and Sergeant Enzo Omiccioli that fell in Africa in 1941.
