Farid Mansurov

Fərid Mansurov ( born May 10, 1982 in Dmanisi ) is an Azerbaijani wrestler. He won at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling to 66 kg, and was in the same weight class in 2007 and 2009 World Champion.

Mansurov is 1.71 meters tall and fights in his hometown for the club Neftchi Baku.

Career

Mansurov in 1997 became Vice World Champion Cadets. At the tournament in Maribor, he lost only in the final against Aydin Sersekajew from Kazakhstan. 1999 Mansurov was 16th World Champion Cadets after poor Vardanyan.

He became Junior World Champion in 2001 in Tashkent. In the final, he defeated the Russians Valentin Novikov clear 6-0.

The following year, Mansurov launched for the first time at the Senior World Championships in the weight category up to 66kg. In the final he had a disadvantage compared to Sweden Jimmy Samuelsson.

At the 2003 European Championships in Belgrade, he came on the 14th Place. At the World Championships in October 2003 Mansurov reached eighth place.

At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, he defeated all his opponents, including going back to Jimmy Samuelsson. In the final he won with almost 4:3 against the European champion in 2003, the Turks Şeref Eroğlu. The next year, he failed to qualify for the international competitions. For Mansurov launched a native of Lənkəran Hussamaddin Rajabow, 2006 launched the three-time world champion Elbrus military Mammadow from SKA Baku, the 13th occupied at the World Championships in Guangzhou for Azerbaijan.

2007 started again Mansurov for Azerbaijan. At the World Championships in Baku, he was a victory in the finals over the French Steeve Guénot (3:2) for the first time world champion. After a disappointing performance at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he only finished in 19th place, he could it defend his world title in the year.

  • 2004, Gold Medal, OS in Athens, GR, to 66 kg after beating Juan Luis Marén, Cuba, Ryszard Wolny, Poland, Parviz Zaidvand, Iran, Jimmy Samuelsson and Şeref Eroğlu
