Farm Loop is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Matanuska- Susitna Borough in Alaska in the United States. The area is located in the center of the Matanuska- Susitna Valley north of the city and Palmer is on the Glenn Highway, the Farm Loop Road and Willow - Fishhook Road reachable.

History

The Matanuska- Susitna whole valley was laid out as a planned agricultural colony. 203 families, mostly from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota, moved in 1935 to the area. Many of their descendants still live there. Low housing costs, the rural lifestyle and the proximity to the city of Anchorage beneficiary population growth.

Demography

At the time of the census in 2000 ( U.S. Census 2000) had 1,067 inhabitants Farm Loop CDP on a land area of 22.9 km ². The average age was 33.7 years ( national U.S. average: 35.3 years ). The per capita income ( per capita income engl. ) amounted to U.S. $ 20,880 ( U.S. National Average: U.S. $ 21,587 ). 7.2 % of residents were with their income below the poverty line ( national U.S. average: 12.4 %). 33.1% of the inhabitants are of German origin, 22.4% are English and 18.1% Irish ancestry. Many residents work in Palmer, Wasilla and Anchorage.
