Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration

Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration ( FMNR ) is a Wiederaufforstungstechik. It was invented by the Australian agricultural economists Tony Rinaudo and developed in West Africa in the 1980s and 1990s. It is practiced among other things, in Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Mali.

FMNR in practice

FMNR course requires existing living tree stumps, tree roots, and seeds. This form new shoots of which are favored in growth by cutting the strongest. Although the stumps may look dead, they offer a great potential for rapid tree growth.
