Farmersville is a city in Collin County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 380 and Highway 78 in the east of the county in northeastern Texas, is located in the north about 45 miles from Oklahoma and has a total area of 8.8 km ², of which 0.4 km ² water surface.

History

The town was founded in 1849 by settlers. It was named after their activity. The first post office was established in 1857 and in 1860 the first private school. The public school system until 1890.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 3,118 people in 1,115 households and 820 families. The population density was 371.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 82.39 % White, 10.10% Black or African American, 0.42 % Native American, 0.06 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 5.29 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.73% were of mixed descent, and 16.13 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 1,115 households, 37.5 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.7 % were married couples living together. 15.3% were single mothers and 26.4 % were non-families. 24.7 % of all households were single-person households, and 14.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size amounted to 3.22.

29.5% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.1 % from 18 to 24, 27.4 % 25-44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.9 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 81.0 males.

The median income for a household was $ 38,094, and the median income for a family $ 46,700. Males have a median income of $ 32,331 versus $ 22,647 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,693. 12.5 % of the population and 8.5 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 15.3 % have children under the age of 18 and 19.7 % of those 65 or older.
