The Farnborough Airfield is unused for the business aviation airfield about 55 km south-west of London in the county of Hampshire in southern England.

History

The airfield was established by the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom (MOD ) 1908. As a military base, the site of the Royal Aircraft Establishment was used. Aviation pioneer Samuel Franklin Cody led here on October 16, 1908, the first powered flight in the UK.

The first civilian flights took place in 1989, the Luxembourg Group Techniques d' Avant Garde ( TAG) the operation of the aerodrome took over in 1997. 2003, the airfield for 99 years by the Civil Aviation Authority to TAG was leased. The airfield is used by business aircraft with a maximum allowable load of 100 kg. The local affairs the responsibility of the County Rushmoor.

The Secretary of State has granted permission for up to 50,000 aircraft movements / year in February 2011. This number will reach the operator by 2019.

Facilities

In addition to the British Air Accidents Investigation Branch Department of Transportation ( AAIB ), a flight simulator center of the Flight Safety is established. The new passenger terminal was built by TAG opened in the presence of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, 2006.

Farnborough International Airshow

Every two years, will be held by the Society of British Aerospace Companies ( SBAC ) held international trade fair for the aerospace industry, the Farnborough International Airshow on the premises.

Trivia

At the airfield in 2008 found the filming of James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace instead. In the film, the scene is represented as a fictional Austrian airport Bregenz.
