Farnesyltransferase

Farnesyltransferase ( FTase abbreviation ) is that the enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of farnesyl from farnesyl diphosphate ( FPP), to proteins. The resulting thioether bond between farnesyl and C -terminal cysteine ​​of the protein, the latter may be anchored to the cell membrane. This mechanism is also referred to as a ( post-translational ) prenylation and is found in all eukaryotes.

The FTase consists in humans of two subunits and is also able to transfer Geranylgeranylreste ( EC 2.5.1.59 )
