Faschingsschwank aus Wien

The Faschingsschwank from Vienna, Op 26, is a piano cycle by Robert Schumann. It is dedicated Simonin by Sire in Dinant. Schumann composed the first four sentences in Vienna and the final after his return to Leipzig. The work was written in 1839, close in time to the Romances, op.28, and the Piano Pieces, op.32. Together they form the conclusion of the series earlier piano works of Schumann. The five movements suggest the character of a sonata, but Schumann's subtitle fantasy images shows the proximity to previous cycles, such as the Carnival or the Kreisleriana.
