FASTECH 360

As FASTECH 360 two prototypes of the latest generation of Japanese Shinkansen high-speed trains are called. They are designed for a technical permissible maximum speed of 405 km / h and a planned maximum speed in normal operation of 360 km / h. The term " FASTECH 360" is a neologism from Fast (English quick), Technology (german technology) and 360 (km / h). The inclusion of the scheduled traffic on the network of the East Japan Railway Company is expected to based on these vehicles E5 series in 2011 and for the Series E6 2013.

Technology

With the FASTECH 360 some new techniques were tested.

  • The trains are equipped with a drag -increasing emergency air brake, as is customary in the aviation sector. This shape refers to cat ears. This can FASTECH stop in an emergency maneuver within 4000 m 360 trains when driving at 360 km / hr. The air brakes are installed on the vehicle seven parts of the E954 series and five vehicle parts series E955.
  • Each pantograph has only a newly developed twelve-part sliding strip. Thus, the power transmission between the upper line and train to be improved so that trains can run with only one pantograph. It was also reduced by this measure the noise generated by the current collectors.
  • By controlling the air pressure in the secondary feathers of the bogies the bodies of FASTECH can be 360 tilted by 2 degrees to go through curves with radii of 4,000 meters on the Tohoku Shinkansen at 330 km / h and 6,000 meters with 360 km / h.
  • It end cars were built with different bow shapes to compare which form is better suited for reducing the tunnel pop. The E954 series was about 16 m Buglänge in the power line design as the 500 series in the first car ( E954 -1) and an arrow design as the Shinkansen Series E4 in the eighth car ( E954 -8). The E955 series has an end car with arrow design and 13 m Buglänge ( E955 -1) and one with 16 m Buglänge ( E955 -6).

In the test drive of a coupled train with the E954 and E955 series, this was only to 330 km / h will meet the legal noise limits. Because of the high cost of noise abatement measures to train and tracks the planned maximum speed of the new vehicles of the series E5 and E6 to 320 km / h was limited. Here, the train without the aerodynamically acting air brakes could meet alone with the disc brakes in an emergency brake a braking distance of 4000 m. Therefore, renounces the air brake in the series trains.

Train types

After the test runs from March to June 2003, the series E2 ( with a speed of up to 362 km / h ) and series E4 ( with a speed of up to 340 km / h), two prototype trains were developed.

FASTECH 360 S (Series E954 )

The code letter S is the first letter of Shinkansen. The train was especially made as a new Shinkansen train for Tōhoku Shinkansen and named as set S9. He had eight cars: a buffet car ( E954 - 4), a first - class carriage ( E954 -5) and six 2nd class cars. The train started from June 2005 test runs on the Tōhoku Shinkansen, and later on the Joetsu Shinkansen and Nagano (only between the stations Takasaki and Karuizawa ). In a test drive on the Tohoku Shinkansen a top speed of 368 km / h was reached on 1 March 2006 between the cities of Sendai and Kitakami. The invited members of the press described the vibrations and road noise at 360 km / h compared with the E2 series with a top speed of 275 km / h During test runs in August 2005 have already been achieved speeds up to 398 km / h. The train was at a cruising speed of up to 340 km / h will meet the legal noise limits. The vehicle was scrapped in September 2009 after completion of the test program.

FASTECH 360 Z (Series E955 )

The second test train with the designation S10 was prepared for the mini - Shinkansen. The "Z " stands for Zairai 360 Z - Sen (在 来 线, dt " conventional route " ) at FASTECH. The test train S10 consisted of six cars: a buffet car ( E955 -5 ), a first - class carriage ( E955 -2) and four 2nd class cars. The third car ( E955 -3) had no air brake. The tests began in 2006 on the Tōhoku Shinkansen. Later, the train was also tested on the Akita Shinkansen. The train was retired in December 2008.

Based on the FASTECH 360 Z the Shinkansen E6 series was developed to replace from 2013 series vehicles on the E3 Akita Shinkansen.
