Fat Possum Records

Fat Possum Records is an independent American record label based in Oxford, Mississippi.

History

The company was founded in 1992 by Matthew Johnson and Peter Redvers -Lee in Oxford, Mississippi. Originally, the company specialized in the discovery of blues musicians from the northern Mississippi region. Many of the early musicians were using the music critic of the New York Times, Robert Palmer, discovered, who also produced several albums for the label.

Although many albums of the company were praised by critics, the company soon slid into the red, a problem with which the company had to fight long. A legal dispute with Capricorn Records tape a lot of funds, so that some projects could not be realized. Over time, the company broadened its base, where she took young bands, even away from the Blue genres in their program.
