Father Dowling Mysteries is an American crime drama, which was produced in three seasons and includes a total of 45 episodes.

Action

Frank Dowling is a Roman Catholic priest who runs a small community in Chicago. He is assisted by his housekeeper, Marie Gillespie, and the young novice Sister Stephanie.

The three have the property of being involved in criminal cases of all kinds, and to hunt with united forces, but also with the necessary faith, murderers, thieves, and young offenders.

Background information

The series is based on the "Father Dowling Mysteries " detective novels by the U.S. author Ralph McInerny ( 1929-2010 ). While Father Dowling in the novel is a former alcoholic who still has from his time before his ordination on information and contacts for criminal scene, this mediator takes over in the television series the figure of the sister Stephanie, for which there is no equivalent in the novels.

First Father Dowling Mysteries was not designed as a series. The pilot episode, which was broadcast on 30 November 1987, but was followed by a great response, so that was aired after over a year on January 20, 1989, the first regular episode of the series.
