Fathi Terbil

Fathi Terbil (Arabic فتحي طربيل, even Fatih Turbel ) is a Libyan lawyer, human rights activist and member of the National Transitional Council, in which he is a representative of the youth.

Life

Terbil studied at the Garyounis University in Benghazi.

He is a lawyer of the relatives of the murdered about 1200 prisoners of the massacre, which was in the Abu Salim prison in Tripoli perpetrated in 1996 by Libyan security guards. The massacre fell by Terbils statements, and his brother Ismail Terbil Osma, his cousin Khaled Terbil, his brother Jamal Al Muftah Rebaa and five former fellow victim.

Because of his research regarding the massacre Terbil was arrested by Libyan security forces on 15 February 2011, after about 200 of his clients of the Abu Salim If a sit-in in front of a police station in Benghazi initiated. On the following day Terbil was released, the demonstrations were, however, continued and ended on February 17, 2011 in a called by the opposition day of wrath.

In 2011 he was awarded the Ludovic- Trarieux human rights prize awarded by the Institute for Human Rights of the European lawyers. In addition, Time magazine named him one of the hundred most influential people of 2011.

On November 22, 2011 Terbil was sworn in as the new Minister of Youth and Sports of the Libyan transitional government.
