Fathulla Jameel

Fathulla ( Fatuhullah ) Jameel ( born September 5, 1942 † March 1, 2012 in Singapore ) was a diplomat and politician of the Maldives, who was for 27 years, 1978-2005 Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Life

After schooling completed Jameel, a son of the future Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Muhammad Jameel Didi, like his father, completed a study in the fields of philosophy and Islamic theology ( ʿ Ilm al - Kalam ) at Al- Azhar University in Cairo, and this study in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Philosophy and Islamic Theology ) from. After a postgraduate teacher training course at Ain Shams University in Egypt, and his return to the Maldives he was on November 18, 1969 a teacher at the School Majeediyya.

In 1973 he moved to the State Department and was there until 1976 Undersecretary of State for International Organizations and Foreign aid and at the same time in 1974 briefly Acting Under Secretary of State for Foreign Help in the Office of the Prime Minister. In 1974 he completed a training course in International Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Australia and was on his return in 1975 Acting for a time Under Secretary in the Ministry of Transport. After he was 1976-1977 Deputy Foreign Minister, he was most recently 1977-1978 Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations in New York City.

He was appointed on 14 March 1978 to the Minister of Foreign Affairs At the end of the term of President Ibrahim Nasir. A position he took over after the inauguration of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on 11 November 1978, held this function more than 27 years until his resignation and his replacement by Ahmed Shaheed on 14 July 2005.

At times, he was from 1982 to 1983 and from 1990 to 1991 and Minister of Planning and the environment.
