Fatih Sonkaya

Fatih Sonkaya (born 1 July 1981 in Oltu ) is a former Turkish- Dutch footballer. With the Turkish national team, he participated in the FIFA Confederations Cup 2003 and came during this tournament to two stakes.

Playing career

Sonkaya came in the district town in the eastern Turkish province of Erzurum Oltu on the world and moved in childhood with his family in the Netherlands and settled in the city of Heerlen. Here he learned to play football in the youth departments of various amateur clubs like SV Heerlerhei, Swift Roermond, Heerlen SV until he moved to the youth of Roda JC Kerkrade. In 1998 he was excluded here in the first team of the then first division, but coached two years only. His professional debut was on November 5, 2000 during a league match against Feyenoord Rotterdam. By the end of the season he came in two more league games for use and took his team to fourth place in the table. In the next season Sonkaya captured right at the start of the season a regular place, completed 28 league games and finished the season with his team at the 7th place in the table. In addition, it managed in the UEFA Cup of the season 2001/ 02 until the second round, where you failed miserable at AC Milan. Sonkaya played with in almost every UEFA Cup games and contributed a hit on. The following season he kept his place and rose to the Turkish national team. With the Turkish national team, he participated in the FIFA Confederations Cup 2003 and ended with his team the tournament in third place.

After Sonkaya had established himself in the national team, the existing interest of the Turkish clubs rose in him. In the summer of 2004, he has been linked with Galatasaray and Beşiktaş Istanbul. After the former decided to fulfill an obligation Sonkayas, Beşiktaş undertook the defense talent against a fee of three million U.S. dollars. With his new club, he found only in October 2004 in the team and was used by coach Vicente del Bosque until the winter break consistently in the starting eleven. For the second round, the club's coach del Bosque replaced by the club's legendary player Riza Çalımbay. The Portuguese football club FC Porto, the Sonkaya had already observed in his time at Roda Kerkrade, expressed an interest in Sonkaya and began to negotiate with Beşiktaş. For summer 2008 Sonkaya joined together to release Azerbaijani club FK Khazar Lankaran. Here he played only one season and then moved to the Turkish TFF 1 Lig to Kayseri Erciyesspor.

In 2011 he moved to Northern Cyprus club Cetinkaya TSK. In March 2012 Sonkaya privately took part in an indoor soccer tournament and got to the end of the tournament in a mass unrest. The Royal Netherlands Football Association blamed Sonkaya and two other friends for this unrest. Sonkaya subsequently received a life- match suspension.

National

Sonkaya played September 2000 with his support of the Turkish U-19 national team during his time at VVV Venlo for the first time for a Turkish national team.

One year after this mission for the U -19, he was nominated for the first time Turkish U-21 national team, scoring two years in which he met once in 12 games to the regularly appointed players.

On the occasion of the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2003 nominated the coach Senol Güneş alongside seasoned internationals too many young players who played never or only a few times for the national team, the squad of the Turkish national team. During this tournament Sonkaya completed two internationals. His team finished the tournament in third place.
