Fausto Correia

Fausto de Sousa Correia ( born October 29, 1951 in Coimbra, Portugal, † October 9, 2007 in Brussels) was a Portuguese politician of the Socialist Party in the European Parliament.

Life

Correia grew up in Coimbra and studied at the University of Coimbra Jura. In the early years he worked as a journalist for the newspaper República, before he turned to politics.

Under Prime Minister António Guterres, he was appointed to the Portuguese Government. The early 2000s he was active in the leadership of the Loja do Cidadão project, a new kind of business, which was established by the government in Portuguese cities in order to increase efficiency and service. In the elections to the European Parliament in 2004, he was elected for the Partido Socialista, the Social Democratic Party of Portugal to the European Parliament.

On the night of October 9, 2007 Correia died in Brussels from heart failure.
