Fausto Zonaro

Fausto Zonaro ( born September 18, 1854 in Masi, Italy, † July 19, 1929 in Sanremo ) was an Italian painter.

Fausto Zonaro was trained as a painter in Italy and France and lived in Paris and Venice. Since 1892 he worked as a court painter at the court of Sultan Abdulhamid II in Istanbul. After the deposition of the Sultan, he returned to Italy in 1911 (see the Italian- Turkish War ) and took up residence in a village not far from Sanremo. He became known through historical paintings; recognized are his exact observations in the city of Istanbul. His painting of herself punishing Shias (see Shia in martyrdom ) from 1909 was included in the permanent exhibition at the Istanbul Modern.
