Favaios is a comune ( Freguesia ) at the Portuguese circuit ( concelho ) of Alijó. 1072 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011) in her.

History

The traces of human habitation of the area lead back to the Iron Age. The Castro culture continued right up until taking the area by the Romans. Favaios, which was known as Flavia then lay on a Roman road, and was part of the administrative area of Panóias. Beginning of the 8th century, the Moors captured the area. They dragged the attachment of Flavia, and the inhabitants left the place in the sequence. Only in the course of the Reconquista people settled here again. The following Suevi directed a the church Sanct Georgios de Fabaios. From Fabaios finally the current name Favaios developed.

In 1211, the place for the first time received city rights ( Foral ), by King Alfonso II, 1270 by Alfonso III. were confirmed. In 1853 the previously independent circle of Favaios was dissolved and annexed Alijó.

Culture and sights

Among the monuments of the place are, inter alia, various stone fountains, religious buildings and former public buildings. The historical town center as a whole is a listed building.

Favaios is the seat of an eponymous municipality ( Freguesia ). It consists of the following localities:
