Fay Babcock

Fay Clark Babcock (born 15 June 1895 in San Francisco, † November 12, 1970 in Los Angeles ) was an American production designer in film.

Life

Fay Babcock worked in 1931 for the first time as a production designer in film in Hollywood. But it was only in 1937, she was one of the few women in her profession a permanent contract at Columbia Pictures. In 1943, she received along with Lionel Banks and Rudolph Sternad her first Oscar nomination in the category Best Art Direction for the film comedy Witness for the Prosecution ( The Talk of the Town ) with Cary Grant and Jean Arthur. 1945 was followed by another nomination for the Technicolor film musical Cover Girl ( Cover Girl ) with Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly. From 1946 she worked as a freelance set decorator for various film studios. From the mid- 1950s, she was also responsible for the scenes of the U.S. television series. In 1962, she retired. She died in 1970 at the age of 75 years in Los Angeles. Her grave is at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
