Faya-Largeau

Region

Faya- Largeau Faya or is an oasis town in northern Chad with about 14,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the region Borkou and was until 2008 the capital of Borkou - Ennedi - Tibesti.

The climate at Faya is very hot and dry ( desert climate ).

History

The city, which was originally called Faya was renamed Largeau after the conquest of Borkou by Étienne Largeau 1913. In the 1970s it reverted to its old name. In the 1970s, the production of dates in Faya was funded by a development project. The city has an airport and a small power station.

When taking the Aouzou strip 1975 Libya took a Faya- Largeau. 1980 became Hissène Habré in control of the city, 1981-1982 Goukouni Oueddei. In 1983 they fell again to Libya until it withdrew in 1987.
