Fayette County (Iowa)

The Fayette County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In 2010, the County had 20,880 inhabitants and a population density of 11 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is West Union.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Iowa, is in the north about 40 miles from Minnesota and the east about 40 km from Wisconsin, where the border by the Mississippi River is formed. History

The Fayette County in 1837 from parts of the former Clayton County in the area of the former Wisconsin - formed territory. It was named after Marie -Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (1757-1834), a French general and politician, who went to America to fight in the American War of Independence in 1777 and was promoted to major general of the Continental Army.
