Fayette County (Pennsylvania)
The Fayette County is a county, Pennsylvania. In the census in 2010, the County had 136 606 inhabitants and a population density of 66.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Uniontown.
The Fayette County is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Pittsburgh.
Geography
The County is located in southwestern Pennsylvania on the east bank of the Monongahela River, one of the headwaters of the Ohio River; in the south it is separated by the Mason - Dixon line of Maryland and West Virginia. The Fayette County has an area of 2,067 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Fayette County was formed on September 26, 1783 from Westmoreland County. It was named after Marie - Joseph Motier, Marquis de La Fayette (1757-1834), a French general who was instrumental in the American War of Independence and the French Revolution.
