FC Astana

The FK Astana ( Kazakh: Астана Футбол клубы, Russian: Футбольный клуб Астана ) is a Kazakh football club based in Astana, the capital of the country.

History

The football club was founded by the merger of two clubs from Almaty Alma- Aty FK and FK Mega Sports Almaty under the name FK Astana locomotive 2009. The team fought under the leadership of the Russian head coach Sergei Juran in his first season in second place. 2010, the German specialist Holger Fach was taken by his assistant coach Sascha Franz as new head coach under contract, who led the team to fourth place in the championship. Also in 2010, the first cup victory was celebrated, as Shakhtar Karaganda was defeated in the capital's Astana Arena in the final 1-0. However, the UEFA refused the club license to participate in the qualification for the UEFA Europa League 2011 /12.

On 2 March 2011 the first win of the Kazakhstan Supercup could be celebrated. Here, the champion was 2010 Tobyl Qostanai defeated by two goals from Igor Bugaiov 2-1 in the domestic Astana Arena in front of 4,100 spectators. On 20 May 2011 with the deletion of locomotive was made from the association name. With the regained the national Cup 2012, Astana qualified for a European competition for the first time, left in the UEFA Europa League 2013/14, however, already in the first qualifying round against Botev Plovdiv from.
