FC Baltika Kaliningrad

The FK Baltika Kaliningrad (Russian Футбольный Клуб Балтика Калининград, Futbolny club Baltika Kaliningrad ) is a football club established in 1954 from the Russian city of Kaliningrad, who played from 1995 to 1998 in the Premjer League.

History

The club was founded in December 1954 as Pischtschewik Kaliningrad ( Пищевик ). A first success was in 1957, while still a unterklassiger club, reaching the fourth round of the Soviet Cup. In 1958 it was renamed Baltika. From 1971 until the end of the USSR Baltika played in the second league. At the foundation of the Russian league Baltika was classified in the second division, the third division, but could rise as champion in the first year. After three years in the second- highest Russian league succeeded 1995 as second division champions the rise in the upper house of Russian football. In 1996, the team's seventh and eighth in 1997, which the club to participate in the UEFA Intertoto Cup qualifying in 1998. In UI-Cup the team was able to win in the first round against Spartak Varna and in the second round against FK AS Trenčín, but failed in the third round on away goals rule in the Serbian club Vojvodina Novi Sad. However, in the 1998 season, the team got out of the Premjer league again. Since then, the club divides his time between the second and third highest Russian league.
