The FC Barcelona Hóquei Gel is the hockey department of the residents of the Catalan Barcelona FC Barcelona. The club plays in the Super Liga, the highest ice hockey league of Spain.

History

The Department Hockey FC Barcelona was founded in January 1972 after the construction of the ice hockey stadium Palau de Gel was completed. The first title was won by the club in 1976 when he was Spanish Cup winners. Mid-1980s, the men's team was disbanded due to lack of sponsorship revenue by President Josep Lluís Núñez. The U20 team of the club won the 1987 Spanish Junior Championship, which was seen as a top division due to the release of the Super League. The following year, the juniors were able to win the championship again.

Only in 1990, the FC Barcelona again took part in the Super League and was able to win three times since then. Due to the championships won, Barcelona were eligible to play for the IIHF Continental Cup, but came with the previous participations not go beyond the first qualifying round.
