FC Chiasso

The FC Chiasso 1905 is a football club based in Chiasso, the southernmost municipality in Switzerland. It has about 8,000 inhabitants and is located in the Ticino district Mendrisio. The club was founded in 1905 and plays in the Challenge League, the second highest division in Switzerland. The club colors are red and blue since the 1910/11 season.

The many years represented in the top Swiss league club played from 1913 to 1923 in the Italian league, including four seasons in the top division, Serie A. FC Chiasso may yet have no national success. The biggest club success is so far the runner in the season 1950 /51. The FC Chiasso has no particularly positive tradition in the Swiss Cup. After all, he was there three times to reach the semi-finals.

The Stadio Comunale holds 11,160 spectators and was built in the late 1960s. The first game in the new stadium on 31 August 1969, the match FC Chiasso against FC Grenchen, which ended with a 2-0 success for the visitors. The viewer average of FC Chiasso between 2005 and 2008 is approximately 1,300 people. The season 2007/ 08 went very disappointing for the Südtessiner, rather than to the rise they played against relegation. In the second half though a comeback was started, the League receipt but was still missed. Since then play the Südtessiner in the first league. In the 2008 /09 season Chiasso was the best team in its first league group and reached the ascent games in which it, however, surprisingly failed at FC Le Mont- sur -Lausanne.

President Marco Grassi helped the ailing club financially years ago on the jumps, so that the FC Chiasso was able to rise to the Challenge League at the end of the 2009/10 season and there you can play an important role in the second-highest Swiss football league again. The club colors are red and blue since the 1910/11 season.
