FC Daugava
FC Daugava Daugavpils (Russian ФК Даугава Даугавпилс; until the end of 2006 " FC Ditton Daugavpils ") is a Latvian football club from Daugavpils.
History
The association founded in 1909 Ditton Daugavpils, from which the FC Daugava Daugavpils emerged, played a long time only in the second division and missed several times barely climb. In 2003, the team was only third, but after the first division Gauja Valmiera due to financial problems could no longer participate in the Virsliga the game operation, the club received the 2004 starting place in the first division. There, the club finished at the end of the season in seventh place and had to play in the relegation against Venta Ventspils. After both games were each lost 0-1, the club went straight off again.
2005 Ditton occupied Although only ranked fifth in the second division, but since some second teams were placed from first division before them, yet they reached the play-offs. Counter Olimps Riga, the club prevailed 2-0 and rose again.
With a balanced review of ten wins and ten defeats in eight draws Ditton finished fifth behind local rivals Dinaburg Daugavpils. The second team, ascended parallel to the second division, managed there, the runner-up.
The end of 2006 the club was renamed by the new club's management in FK Daugava Daugavpils. According to the foundation year was changed to 1944, with the club but other than the assumed coat of arms has no ties to the original FK Daugava Riga.
After the 2008 season, the club merged with FC Dinaburg, but noted as FC Daugava also own a team in the second division. Although there only ninth place could be reached, the club a place in the first division was offered after the exclusion of FC Dinaburg because of match-fixing, which was also adopted, with most players of the local rivals were taken. There, the team finished fourth in the new season. In the 2012 season Daugava succeeded in winning the first league title in club history, thus qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
