FC Gossau

The FC is a football club from Gossau the city Gossau in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. Since the 2010/11 season he played in the first league, the third- highest division in Switzerland.

History

The FC Gossau was founded in 1906 and spent the first 65 years of his club history in almost complete insignificance. This changed in 1971, when you first pushed forward with a 3-0 win against FC Widnau up in the first league, which is the third highest division in Switzerland. Between 1975 and 1978 there has even been promoted to the then 14 clubs comprehensive NLB. This was followed eventful years in which the Gossauer usually commuted 1 to 2 league.

After the renewed descent into the second league 1987, Roger Hegi (later at FC St. Gallen and the Grasshopper Club Zurich ) together a new team, ushering in the " second golden age " of the FC Gossau in the nineties. 1992 managed to rise again in the first league, the direct walkover in the NLB followed by victories over FC Solothurn and FC Monthey. Despite the massive reduction in the League for seven clubs managed to avoid relegation as they beat FC Chiasso in the playoffs. The following season, the descent was, however, no longer be avoided, especially since the NLB was reduced again to six teams. After descending into the first league was established under coach Heinz Bigler immediately a strong team that play in the rise prevailed against the strong Ticino clubs Ascona and Bellinzona and its chances of promotion managed.

However, the last date NLB membership of FC Gossau ( 1996/ 97) lasted only a year. After the team had led after the fifth Round Table, she fell in the wake until the winter break on the second- last place back. A coaching change and several reinforcements no longer led to the League receipt. As a result, they played with varying success in the first league season until the 2007/08 re- promotion to the NLB, which is now called Challenge League. In the 2007 /08 season the League preservation was achieved. In the 2008 /09 season Gossau came in last place of the Challenge League, but still remained in this division as the club FC Concordia Basel and FC La Chaux -de-Fonds had voluntarily opted for a descent into the premier league. However, the FC Gossau in the 2009/10 season only reached the last place, after he had announced a voluntary relegation to the first division.

Made headlines the club when he defeated in the finals of the sixteenth Swisscom Cup 2007/ 08 favorites FC St. Gallen in the derby 2-0.
