FC Gueugnon

The Football Club de Gueugnon is a French football club from the Burgundian commune Gueugnon, located in the department of Saône -et -Loire near Montceau -les -Mines and Autun.

It was created in 1940 through the merger of two local clubs. The association is ( German: " the smiths " ) as les Forgerons called, alluding to the economic structure of the region and the support of a local metal industrial operation. The club colors are blue and yellow; league team plays at the Stade Jean Laville, which has a capacity of 13,872 seats (with only 8,500 inhabitants Gueugnons ). The expansion started in the stadium on the future of 17,500 places in 2011 only half finished, the sequel is currently on ice.

Club president was Guy Vairelles, whose son Tony, 2009, acquired a majority stake in the club and there worked as a sports director; the first team was last trained by Serge Romano. Beginning of April 2011 has liquidated the club because of insolvency by a court; the first team has the remaining third League games no longer disputed. The club was re-established had to re- start in the sechstklassigen Division d'Honneur. Given the facts that Tony Vairelles has rejected another personal, financial commitment, has not been able to integrate new donors, had fallen out with the community and that of 2010/11, two " obviously not third league suitable for members of the Vairelles clans " in the first team had been mustered, France Football spoke of the FC Gueugnon had degenerated " to a private project in the service of a family." Vairelles saw, however, " no responsibility " for themselves.

League membership

Only since 1987 Gueugnon plays in the professional field, was in the amateur stock, but quite successful and popular in the region. The excellence (Division 1 since 2002 in Ligue 1 renamed ) reached the club only 1995/96, but won in 2000 as the second division of the League Cup and thus even took part in the UEFA Cup. After decades of second-class Gueugnon was relegated to the National 2008. In the 2013/14 season, the team in the fifth division ( CFA2 ) is represented.
