FC Linz

FC Stahl Linz is a football club based in Upper Austria's capital Linz in Austria.

History

The club was founded on 30 June 1946 as SV iron and steel 1946 Linz with the club colors of black and white. On November 10, 1949, the renaming of the company sports club in SK VÖEST Linz took place.

Twice was the club Upper Austrian national champion. During 1958 they had failed because of the rise in the former State League B in the relegation matches at KSV Ankerbrot Wien, SK VÖEST was in 1961 as a champion for the newly established as a substructure for National League center (Upper Austria, Styria and Carinthia ) eligible to participate directly.

After the departure of the "United Austrian Iron and Steel Works " ( VÖEST ) from the club, the club called from 1991 FC Stahl Linz. Since the name " Stahl Linz " many still associate with former donors VÖEST, was decided in 1993 to rename the club in FC Linz.

A remarkable success gave the then second division club by reaching the Cup final in 1993/ 94, which, however, on June 11, 1994 provides only 6,000 spectators was clearly lost with 0:4 at the Ernst Happel Stadium against FK Austria Wien.
