FC Petržalka 1898

FC Petržalka 1898 is a Slovak football club based in Bratislava, the club is in Petržalka home (Eng. Engerau ) and carries the club colors of green black and white. Petržalka is one of the oldest and strongest football clubs in Slovakia.

History

The predecessor club Artmedia was founded in the late 19th century, then part of the club the strongest in Hungary. During the Second World War when it was still independent village Petržalka as Engerau belonged to the Third Reich. Later, the club played two years in the first Czechoslovak league. The greatest successes reached the team in 2005 with the title in the Slovak Corgoň league and the move into the main round of the UEFA Champions League.

Artmedia was one of the two clubs who made it out of the first round of qualifying for the Champions League 2005 /06 group stage. The other club was last year's winner, Liverpool.

Qualification to Champions League 2005:

Artmedia made ​​in the group stage for a big surprise when the team on 28 September 2005 caught up a 2-0 residue and the Estádio do Dragão with a 3-2 victory over Champions League winners 2003/ 04, FC Porto, won.

In June 2009, the club changed its name from FC Artmedia Petržalka in MFK Petržalka. 2010, the club descended from the Corgoň league and was renamed to FC Petržalka 1898.
