FC Ryūkyū

FC Ryukyu (Japanese FC琉球, EFU Shī Ryukyu ) is a Japanese football club based in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. Currently, he plays in the third-class Japan Football League.

Ryukyu is the historical name of the prefecture. The club also maintains a futsal and handball team.

History

The club was founded in 2003. Many players of the first squad left the Okinawa Kariyushi FC after a dispute with the club's management of Kariyushi hotel chain. In his first season the club won the Okinawa Prefectural Division 3 North and was allowed to play for next season in Division 1. Also, this ended the club on the first place in the table and played for the 2005 season in the Okinawa Regional League. With the runner-up and winning the regional play-off, the club managed to be the first on Okinawa promotion to the JFL.

In December 2007, the former coach of the Japanese national team Jean -Paul Rabier confirmed his contract for the 2008 season.

In January 2008, the club applied for membership to the J. League, but was rejected on 19 February by the Committee. Rabier ended his contract after one year. He was followed by Hiroyuki Shinzato, the 2012 was replaced by Takeo Matsuda.

Team logo and colors

The club color is called Bengara and has a reddish tint. It is also called red ocher and similar Clairet. Bengara is derived from the Dutch word Bengala, which, in turn, of Bengal, a region between India and Bangladesh, is derived. Since the dye traditionally Bengal to Japan, she was given the name. Okinawa is associated with the color. The Shuri Castle in Naha City, one of the most imposing buildings of the region is colored in Bengara.
