FCM 36 at the Museum of Blindés in Saumur

The FCM 36 was a light French infantry tanks in World War II.

History

FCM was known by the 36 unsuccessful counterattack 7e BCC ( Reserve the 2nd French Army ) close on 14 May 1940 near Bulson Sedan against Guderian's armored spearhead, who had just crossed the Meuse at Sedan only. In the battle it became clear that the FCM 36 could not stand against the German Panzer III and so 26 of the 36 FCM 36 of the 7e BCC were destroyed and the French counter-attack broke down.

The FCM also with 36 equipped 4e BCC was involved in the following days in the battles for Stonne and also suffered great losses.

About 50 of 100 built tanks fell into German hands and were greeted by the Wehrmacht as Panzerkampfwagen FCM 737 ( f ) are used. In 1943 they were rebuilt in Marder I tank destroyer and were used by the 21 Pz Div during the Battle of Normandy in 1944.
