Februus

Februa (Latin: februa, - orum n - cleaning, means of expiation; Cleaning victim) was in the Roman Empire the name of expiation and purification festival. It was celebrated at the end of February.

The name of the festival comes from the same epithet of the goddess Juno. The goddess was particularly revered by the Lupercalia, on the feast day, the women were ritually cleansed by the Luperci with a goatskin, the mantle of Juno.

After the feast of the month is February named (Latin: februarius - Adj for cleaning belonging, noun cleaning month, February).
