National rules

If and when general statutory holidays are celebrated in different countries depends on the legislation of the state. The data of this and other holidays are determined by the Government of the State, not by the U.S. government in Washington. Each state may, for example, opt for the same date set by the President, but a state can put a holiday on a day that has special meaning for him, or decide not to celebrate it. However, most states choose the date on which the holiday is celebrated in the rest of the country.

In addition, there are other legal or official holidays that are celebrated but only in a specific state or only in a region. The closure of offices and shops is different here, and if the days are free of work depends not only on local customs but also and above all by the employer.
