Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health ( BAuA ) is a federal authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. It has its headquarters in Dortmund, locations in Berlin and Dresden, as well as a branch office in Chemnitz. The Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health advises as an authoritative departmental research institute of the German Federal Government in all matters of safety and health at work and the humane design of working conditions. The tasks of the BAuA include policy advice, the provision of information and practical guides for good practice (see Key Indicator ), the implementation of the necessary hands-on research and development and the exercise of public authority. These include the observation and analysis of occupational safety, health situation and the working conditions in the company as well as the risks to the health of employees, resulting from the stress and strain of work equipment and materials from complex workplace influences or workflows. The BAuA developed contributions to the preventive designing working conditions and occupational health prevention and control of occupational diseases. To fulfill these tasks, the BAuA conducts its own research or through awards research contracts to third parties. The transfer and implementation of findings into operational practice is given an important role. An information center gives free information on issues of occupational health and safety.

The BAuA operates through the DASA - Working World Exhibition a permanent exhibition to present the scientific findings to the public.

The National REACH helpdesk is established at the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health ( BAuA). The BAuA manages the Initiative New Quality of Work, the Joint German OSH Strategy (GDA ) as well as a variety of advisory bodies: Committee on Hazardous Substances, Committee for Biological Agents.

The BAuA is a member of the Association of departmental research institutions.

Locations

The BAuA has, in addition to its head office in Dortmund two locations in Berlin- Lichtenberg ( Nöldnerstraße 40-42) and the Dresden Albert City ( Fabricestraße 8). Furthermore, there is a branch in Chemnitz ( Jagdschänkenstraße 33).
