Federal Ministry of the Interior (Germany)

The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI ), short Federal Ministry of the Interior, is a Supreme Authority of the Federal Republic of Germany. It has its headquarters in the district of Moabit of the district center of Berlin. The second seat is located in Bonn city district Castell in the former barracks chaff. History

Predecessor was the Reich Ministry of the Interior, which was in turn emerged from the Ministry of the Interior. The BMI was constituted in accordance with a recommendation of the Organizing Committee of the Conference of Prime Ministers of 30 July 1949.

Jurisdiction

The Interior Ministry is the Ministry of Interior of the Federation and thus largely determines the internal politics. Its jurisdiction extends to, among other things:

Construction of the new service fit Berlin

Currently, the Ministry is spread over three buildings in the city of Berlin, of which one is a rental property. Due to security and economic benefits of this are to be combined in a new building. This occurs on the north side of the River Spree between the Chancellor Park and Berlin Central Station, directly on Berlin Stadtbahn viaduct. In April 2009, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag approved the construction project. The construction cost should be about 200 million euros. The opening is planned for early 2015. After the then Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière had performed the groundbreaking ceremony on 16 December 2010, the new building was temporarily halted in July 2011 due to disputes in the contract - in November 2011 the construction was resumed. The topping out ceremony took place on 22 May 2013.
