Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique

The Fédération Internationale de l' Photographic Art ( FIAP ) is a global umbrella organization for amateur and professional photographers. Official languages ​​of FIAP are French and English. Official texts to be translated into German and Spanish. Seat of FIAP is Paris ( France).

History

The FIAP was officially founded in Bern / Switzerland on the occasion of the Constituent Congress from 17 to 19 June 1950. At this Congress 10 nations were represented (Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Luxembourg, Austria, Sweden and Switzerland).

The spiritual father of the Association, the Belgian Dr. Maurice Van de Wijer contributed since 1946 to start with the idea of ​​an association which international should represent the interests of photography and amateur photographers. He hired at this time already with several national associations to contact. He carried the idea in 1947 the Swiss Ernest Boesiger ago with a request to work in such an association as secretary. He took over as chairman.

The association was first called Union Internationale des Sociétés Photographiques, then Conseil International de l' Photographic Art and ultimately Fédération Internationale de l' Photographic Art. First participating countries were Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland. In September 1947 Denmark, Finland and Hungary came to. Today ( 2007), FIAP connected 85 national associations from all continents.

Organization

The Association is managed by a Management Committee. This organized every two years the FIAP Congress, at which included consultation with delegations from the national federations transactions are effected. Purpose

The aim of the FIAP is to promote artistic photography in all its aspects. This includes the organization of global photographic occasions and the granting of awards. The maintenance of international contacts among photographers is also a declared objective of the association. In the time before the turn, for example, enabled the FIAP photographers of the Eastern Bloc countries contacts with the rest of the photographic world.
