Federation of German Scientists

The Federation of German Scientists ( VDW) is a German association who feels a "responsible science" committed. The VDW has the legal form of a registered association. The VDW was founded in 1959 by Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker and other scientists who had spoken out in the Declaration of Göttingen 18 against nuclear armament of the Bundeswehr.

The VDW takes through events, working groups and publications comment on social and scientific topics and the peace and security policy. The VDW has about 400 members, who are both humanities, social scientists and natural scientists.

Whistleblower Award

The VDW awards the " Whistleblower Award" for people "who have gone to the public and personal sacrifices with references to social risks and problems after you have not heard in their own institution."
