Federation of International Polo

The FIP ( Federation of International Polo, dt " International Polo Federation" ) is the world's Polo Association. It organizes various polo competitions, including the Polo World Cup. The current President is the Argentinian Eduardo Huergo. The FIP is registered in the register of the Ministerio de Educacion y Cultura ( Ministry of Culture) in Uruguay.

Tasks and objectives

  • Being the only international authority for all types of horse polo for men, women and youth, including Polo in all shapes and forms, traditional polo, snow, beach, and indoor arena polo.
  • Improve the image and status of polo at the international level
  • Creation, organization, promotion and enforcement of: a uniform set of rules for the game of polo

History

The FIP was founded on 25 November 1982 in Buenos Aires. As a founding father applies the then President of the Argentine Polo Association, Marcos Uranga. The founding members were the national associations of Polo Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, El Salvador, France, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Spain and Zimbabwe.

In 1998, the FIP was recognized by the international Olympic Committee. Then came the FIP, the Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations ( ARISF ) and the General Association of International Sports Federations ( GAISF ) in, signed the World Anti-Doping Code of the World Anti -Doping Agency ( WADA) and imputed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the International Court of Sport.

Due to irreconcilable differences between the FIP President Patrick Guerrand - Hermès and the guides of the three largest Polo Associations Asociación Argentina de Polo (AAP Argentina), United States Polo Association USPA ( United States) and Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA UK ) were them at October 26, 2009 (AAP ) and 27 October 2009 ( USPA and HPA ) from the FIP from. Associations

In 2008, 83 countries were recognized as polo -playing nations, including 45 national associations with full membership in the FIP.
