Federica Brignone

Federica ( " Fede " ) Brignone (* July 14, 1990 in Milan ) is an Italian alpine skier. She is the daughter of the former alpine skier Maria Rosa Quario and successful particularly in the discipline of giant slalom.

Biography

Brignone initially grew up in Milan and moved at the age of six years with her family to La Salle in the Aosta Valley. There she joined the ski club of the neighboring municipality of Courmayeur. Brignone denied her first FIS races in December 2005, as of February 2006, she also took part in the European Cup. Apart from Italian students and junior championships remained significant success from first. Your first mission in the World Cup they had on 28 December 2007 the giant slalom in Lienz, however, different from the first run. Her breakthrough came in the 2008 /09 season: Brignone drove regularly in the European Cup in the front ranks and achieved in February 2009, the first podium. The season they finished as eleventh overall. Brignone won at the Junior World Championships 2009 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, the gold medal in the combined score, also was at the Italian Championships runner-up in Super -G and third parties in the combination.

To kick off the World Cup season 2009/10, the giant slalom on the Rettenbachferner in Sölden, Brignone drove to 21st place and overtook the first World Cup points. Five weeks later, on November 28, 2009, she went to Aspen in the same discipline at No. 3 and achieved their first podium result. At the 2010 Junior World Championships she won also the silver medal in the giant slalom, at the same time with Lena Dürr. At the Olympic Winter Games 2010, she was ranked 18 in the giant slalom.

Like last year, scored Brignone even in winter 2010/11 a podium in the World Cup (second place in the giant slalom in Zwiesel February 6, 2011). In the Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen she won the silver medal in the giant slalom. In the season 2011/12 Brignone drove in four World Cup giant slalom race on the podium, but a win was still pending. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season Brignone was affected by a painful cyst in his right ankle, which is why they could not build on the results of the previous year. They therefore decided in mid-December for the surgical removal of the cyst and had to miss the entire rest of the season.
