Federico Franco

Luis Federico Franco Gómez ( born July 23, 1962 in Asunción, Paraguay ) is a Paraguayan politician, physician, and was between 22 June 2012 and August 15, 2013 President of Paraguay.

Education and professional career

Franco completed his education in his native city of Asunción, where he was first at the primary level, the Escuela República Dominicana and in the secondary then the Colegio Nacional and visited his school career ended with the Bachillerato at the Colegio Apostolico San Jose. He then studied at the Medical Faculty ( Facultad de Ciencias Médicas ) of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA ) and, after successful completion of the study doctor. He earned the title as a surgeon ( Médico Cirujano ) in 1986. Based on this, he completed a postgraduate degree in internal medicine at. In the family-owned hospital, the Sanatorio Franco in the city of Fernando de la Mora, that belongs to him and his brothers, he was then working as a physician. Later leadership positions in the Hospital de Clinicas and followed at the Hospital Nacional. Since June 24th 1991, he is member of the Sociedad Paraguaya de Medicina Interna. There he was a member of the Executive Committee. From 1991 to 1992 he was also an instructor for Medical semiology. Political career

He is since 1976 the Liberal Party Radical Auténtico ( PLRA ) on whose Board he was a member from 2002 to 2008 and as its Executive President he worked until they are replaced by Blas Antonio Llano Ramos in August 2010.

He initially worked as an alderman in Fernando de la Mora from 1991 to 1996. Then he held from 1996 to 2001 the office of the city Intendente Fernando de la Mora. 2003 to 2007 he was Governor of the Central Department, came from this post but back to prepare his joint candidacy with Fernando Lugo. After a successful election in which he took with the Alianza para el Cambio Patriótica (APC ) for the PLRA, he was Vice President of Paraguay since 2008 and President of the Senate, however, distanced himself shortly after the election due to ideological differences of Lugo.

After an impeachment Lugo Federico Franco was sworn in on 22 June 2012 as the new president of Paraguay. His successor in the office of the Vice President was Óscar Denis.

Franco is the Catholic faith and married to the PLRA deputies Emilia Alfaro. The couple has four children Luis, Claudia, Iván and Enzo. Franco is the brother of Julio César Franco, Vice President of Paraguay from 2000 to 2002, served in 2003 as presidential candidate of the PLRA.
