Geography

The hamlet is located in the north-west of Kempttal Pfäffikon. The landscape is flat with scattered hills. From the community area are 56.1 % agriculture, 27.1% is covered by forest, 5.6% is traffic area and 10.3% urban area and 0.7 % are waters. The highest point of the municipality lies at 610 m above sea level. M. the lowest point on 514 m above sea level. M..

History

In the area around Fehraltorf archaeological finds from the Late Bronze Age evidence, starting out on a continuous colonization.

At least 745 inhabited since the Alemanni the area. In the Middle Ages the settlement Altorff or Altdorf or Rüeggisaltorf or Rüedgersaltorf was called; the name Fehraltorf ( fehr = far) was to better distinguish it from Monchaltorf which the monastery Ruti were both tributary. In the 15th century came under the jurisdiction of the bailiwick of Kyburg in the possession of the city of Zurich.

1787 was employed in the cotton industry home a quarter of the otherwise mainly agriculture based population. 1798 Fehraltorf chief town of a district of the same name, in a roundabout way the village belongs to the district since 1831 Pfäffikon. The influence of industrialization remained comparatively low.

With the beginning of the 1960s building boom Fehraltorf grew closer and closer together with the greater Zurich area and gained in population and economic importance.

In the national elections of 2007, the SVP which received 39.6 % EPP, SP 17.7%, FDP 16.9%, Green 9.9 %, the CVP 4.0%, and 4.0 % of the vote from Fehraltorf.

The council consists of wild Fried Ott SVP ( mayor ), Anton Muff DGF, Fritz Schmid party affiliation, Walter Schweizer DGF, Walter Egli SVP and Christian Wegmüller FDP.

Traffic

The community is connected since May 3, 1876, the opening of the railway line Effretikon - Hinwil by the railway company Effretikon -Pfäffikon - Hinwil ( EH ) through the station Fehraltorf to the Swiss railway network. The Zurich S-Bahn operates the station with the line S 3 Aarau - Lenzburg - Dietikon - Zurich HB - Effretikon - Wetzikon. The association Flugsportgruppe Zurich Oberland operates the airfield Bacon Fehraltorf.

Train

In the community Fehraltorf are several kindergartens, a primary school and a secondary school. The number of students has quadrupled since 1960 (1960: 157; 1990: 575; 2012: 640).

Sports clubs

Fehraltorf is the home of the football club founded in 1930 FC Fehraltorf, play the highest ranking teams in the league 4. The men's team handball game community Pfäffikon- Fehraltorf occurs in the 4th league. In turn sector there are, among others, the Turnverein Fehraltorf.
