Feilding

Feilding is a town on the North Island of New Zealand. It lies in the Manawatu -Wanganui region, and is the capital of the Manawatu District. In 2006, the city had 12,964 inhabitants. This means a slight decrease in population by 282 residents since 1996.

Is named Feilding after Colonel William Feilding, director of the Emigrants and Colonists Aid Corporation Ltd.. , A former British organization that tried to reduce unemployment in the home country of the British Empire by " transplanted people in other parts of the empire, including to New Zealand ". He acquired in 1871 about 400 km ² land from the provincial government in Wellington. The first British settlers arrived Feilding on 22 January 1874.

Feilding is a center dominated by the agriculture district, and is located in the Manawatu Plains, thus also in the floodplain of rivers. In 2004 about 140 houses were destroyed in floods.

Feilding was chosen for the twelfth time the most beautiful town in New Zealand. South of the village is the Manfeild Car Course, one of the most important motor sports race track in the country, while in the east of the village followed by a small airfield. From the base in Feilding from start Feilding and District Steam Rail Society Ride on the historic steam locomotives. In the town itself there is the 1904 Building, a Grade II listed building built in 1904.

The alternative rock band Evermore is originally from Feilding.
