Feistritz an der Gail

Feistritz an der Gail ( Slovene: Bistrica na Zilji ) is a municipality with 646 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Villach-Land in Carinthia.

Geography

Geographical location

Feistritzwerke located in the Lower Gail Valley near the border triangle of Austria, Italy and Slovenia. The Gail forms the northern boundary of the municipality, in the south of the municipality extends to the main ridge of the Carnic Alps. The southeastern border is formed by long stretches of Feistritzwerke ditch.

The municipality consists of a single cadastral and village Feistritz an der Gail ( Bistrica na Zilji ).

History

Feistritzwerke was first documented in 1119. After Dobratsch landslide in 1348 the swampy farmland, so that the farmers specializing in the breeding of Noric horses. Until 1849 the current municipality on six lordships was divided, then Feistritzwerke belonged to the municipality Hohenthurn. From 1906 to 1973 Feistritzwerke was an independent municipality until 1990 he again part of the High Thurn and in 1991 again independently.

Population

According to the 2001 census Feistritzwerke is at the Gail with 661 inhabitants, of which 98.3 % have Austrian citizenship, the smallest municipality in Carinthia. 7.9% of the population belong to the Slovene-speaking minority.

For the Roman Catholic Church to 94.3 % of the community population profess the Protestant Church 2.7%, no religious persuasion are 2.0%.

Culture and sights

  • The parish church of St. Martin, mentioned in documents in 1182, since 1424 the parish, is a late Gothic building from the 15th century. It is located on the hill above the village and is surrounded by the cemetery.
  • Feistritzwerke is known primarily for the annual church festival on Whit Monday. On this day the Gail valley costume worn by unmarried boys and girls who are older than 15 years. After Mass in the church and after the traditional lunch with the Festive soup place in the afternoon until Oberfeistritz and then in the sub Feistritzwerke the Kufenstechen with Linde dance instead. The following day, the married the village excel in their adult costume for the Mass in the church, to drink in different houses and Linde dance.

Economy and infrastructure

According to Census of 2001, there are 20 workplaces with 59 employees in the community as well as 199 commuters and 23 commuters. There are 75 agricultural and forestry holdings ( including 9 in the main acquisition ), which together manage 2,876 ha ( 1999).

The transport infrastructure is via the Gail Valley road (B 111 ) and state roads L 27 and L 27a.

The local council of Feistritzwerke has 11 members and is composed as follows since the municipal elections in 2009 together:

Directly elected mayor is Dieter Moertl (ÖVP ).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Feistritzwerke is based on the local custom of the runners and piercing shows a red shield a golden pole with an attached blade that is slanted to the left of a tapered leg ( " Koleč " ) covers. Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on 8 October 1992, the flag is red and yellow with integrated crest.
