The city has 15,525 inhabitants ( 2004). The main town of the city is Margaride with about 9,500 inhabitants ( 2001).

History

From the time of the Roman settlement comes several finds, especially the excavation of the Villa of Sendim from the 4th century. The earliest documented mention Felgueiras dates from the year 959 under Portugal's first king D.Afonso Henriques the place probably got first city rights, but the document has not been preserved. King D.Manuel I. renewed the city rights in 1514.

The former small-town ( Vila ) Felgueiras was raised on 13 July 1990 on the city ( Cidade ). In the circle Lixa was simultaneously charged with its four boroughs of the city.

Sports

Felgueiras home to the football club founded in 1933 Futebol Clube Felgueiras. It carries out its home games of the third Portuguese league (as of season 2013/14 ) in the Zona Desportiva de Felgueiras Stadium.

Other football clubs in the county was founded in 1955 CRPP Barrosas (Centro Recreativo de Barrosas Popular População ) from the community and the Idães Founded in 1934, FC Lixa, both of which compete in Divisions of the District Association include postage (as of 2013/14 ).
