Felice Casorati (mathematician)

Felice Casorati ( born December 17, 1835 in Pavia, † September 11, 1890 ) was an Italian mathematician. Felice Casorati is mainly known by the set of Weierstrass Casorati.

Casorati first interests were architecture and construction. He gained first in these subjects in 1856 graduated from the University of Pavia. As assistant of Francesco Brioschi he taught, among others, topology, and visited in 1858 together with Enrico Betti Göttingen, Berlin and Paris. In this study trips he discussed with Leopold Kronecker and Karl Weierstrass the foundations of analysis. After his return in 1859 he took part in an extraordinary professorship for algebra and analytic geometry at the University of Pavia. In 1862, a tenured professorship followed. He held until 1868 lectures in Geodesy and Analysis. He was followed by a stay in Milan until 1875 and then returned to Pavia, where he taught until his death Analysis.
