Felice Romani

Felice Romani ( January 31, 1788 in Genoa, † January 28, 1865 in Moneglia ) was an Italian author and librettist of numerous operas.

Life

After studying at the University of Genoa, he undertook extended trips through several European countries, including through Spain, Greece, Germany and France. He then settled in Milan and became the Hauptlibrettist the city's Teatro alla Scala. But He tied not only to this stage. Compared to its many mediocre contemporary songwriter colleagues, his books proved to be superior in terms of quality. Today, it is therefore quite rightly described as the most important Italian opera librettist of his time. His favorite composer was Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Vincenzo Bellini and Simon Mayr. In addition to the nearly 100 librettos he wrote poetry and translated French literature into his native language.
