Felipe Santiago Salaverry

Felipe Santiago de Salaverry (* 1806 in Lima, † February 19, 1836 in Arequipa ) was a Peruvian -General and President of Peru from 23 February 1835 to 7 February 1836.

Salaverry studied at the College of San Carlos in Lima, but left this in 1820 against the wishes of his father, and went as a volunteer for military service. Initially, the rank of cadet in the fight against the Spaniards, he made the military his career and was present at the proclamation of the Republic in the rank of general. As a general he struck down several uprisings. On February 23, 1835, he raised himself against the government, took the capital Lima and made himself president.

As the Bolivian army invaded Peru, Salaverry to put this forward with his army on 7 February in 1836 and was defeated at the Battle of Soca Baya. After several days he surrendered to General Miller, who took him prisoner and surrendering him to Andrés de Santa Cruz, who had him executed.
