Felix of Valois

Felix of Valois ( born April 9, 1127 Amiens, † November 4, 1212 in the monastery Cerfroid in Brumetz ) is one of the founders of the Trinitarian Order. On May 1, 1262, he was canonized by Pope Urban IV.

Life

He was the one in the name of Hugo baptized, only son of Count Rudolf I of Vermandois, Valois, Amiens and Crépy, Seneschal and Regent of France, and Eleanor of Blois. Hugo was founded in 1152 as Count of Vermandois etc. his father's successor, but has already appeared back in 1160 from all his offices and titles. He was succeeded by his half-brother Rudolf II, but the ready in 1167 died without issue, and thus Vermandois, Valois, Amiens and Crépy only to his brother Philip I, Count of Flanders inherited, after his death in 1191 at the siege of Acre the land to the crown fell.

Hugo retired to a hermitage where joined him after some time John of Matha. Both founded in 1198 the Trinitarian order, the Order of the Holy Trinity, itself the task of freeing Christian captives from Muslim prisons.
